Traveling the globe and feeling lonely with your knock-off jandals and oceanside views solo? If you want to get a headstart on meeting people before you travel – consider an app. A dating app.
Did anyone else hear “whomp whomp whomp”?
Listen, I get it. Most apps get a bad rap as booty-call apps versus dating champions. Their meant for one-night stands, easy hookups and people who seem to not fear an STD in the world, right?
Dating apps are for anyone and everyone seeking some real-life connection on their travels. Yes, there certainly is their share of booty-call badboys (and gals) but hey, this is dating and that happens in bars too. So, let’s not write them off just yet.
The biggest benefit of using an online dating app is the ability to location match (typically with an additional fee) anywhere in the globe. Heck, I’ve even used this when traveling to New Zealand on my most recent adventures and guess what? I met someone pretty ah-mazing who has turned into a real life, awesomesauce, full-blown relationship. Critics say it can’t happen or that the dating pool is so shallow but I found love on an app and you can too.
So, where should you begin?
My personal favorite changes depending upon where in the world I happen to be traveling. Some are, quite frankly, better than others.
My top 5 dating apps abroad:
Yes, I know, I know – the “original” booty-call bad rap dating app but this one is quick, easy and people generally are quite social on it.
Ladies choice! Bumble is a great app with a little more social grace than Tinder. That said, it’s slower and more tedious in my experience. So, if you’re short on time… skip the line and try something where guys and gals get equal opportunity to chat first!
Meet Me Outside
Perfect for the active adventure seeker this dating app aligns souls based on your favourite social outdoor activities and encourages you to seek a partner.
Miss Travel (https://www.misstravel.com)
Another bad-rap site, this one connects like-minded travelers for major adventure with everything from day trips to several weeks abroad and together you decide the itinerary and who pays. It should be noted, most often the men pay and women are invited as company and all that implies although the site and people I’ve met who have used it deny, deny, deny. You be the judge.
Travel, Meet, Date (https://travelmeetdate.com)
A fully paid app this one allows you to post itineraries and meet people along your adventures. Said to encourage social behavior while traveling, with it’s paid fees you can count on a crowd that’s more serious about meeting.
All you single guys and gals out there looking to connect – what’s been the best app you’ve tried? Married/Dating – how did you meet your significant other on the road?
